Our co-founders
AREAS is a U.S.-based research and technology advisory company. Our team combines criminal-justice research, public-policy analysis, and production AI/ML engineering. We bring research experience, academic leadership, and technical delivery to questions about people, institutions, and the tools they use.
Ahmet’s research examines policing, criminal justice policy, terrorism, and public-sector technology. His extensive, widely cited body of work includes projects on public perceptions of AI in policing, studies of body-camera evidence in police misconduct investigations, and research on information sharing across government organizations. He combines this research and project experience with academic leadership, active teaching, and prior police leadership roles.
Kaan has extensive hands-on experience in production AI and machine learning engineering, spanning language models, computer vision, data science, and data engineering. He contributes a practical understanding of AI systems, their data requirements, and the engineering tradeoffs that shape performance and reliability. His doctoral expertise in criminal justice adds a domain perspective to this technical foundation, connecting applied AI/ML with research on policing and technology evaluation.
